Top stars set for National Cross Country Championships in Eldoret

Some of Kenya’s biggest athletics stars are set to battle it out this weekend at the National Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Eldoret Sports Club.
The highly anticipated event will also serve as the official Athletics Kenya trials for the 2026 World Cross Country Championships, set for January 10 in Tallahassee, USA.

A star-studded lineup is expected to light up the course, with World 800m champion Lilian Odira leading the charge in the women’s category.
Odira, who will also compete in the 2km loop, will face stiff competition from Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon champion Rebecca Mwangi and New Delhi Half Marathon winner Lilian Kasait Rengeruk, who is seeking to reclaim her place among Kenya’s top endurance runners.
In the men’s races, the field promises fireworks with world 1,500m bronze medalist Reynold Cheruiyot, world 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, and NCAA 10,000m champion Ismael Kipkurui among the headliners.
Kipkurui, the 2023 U-20 World Cross Country champion, will be joined by 2024 World Cross Country bronze medalist Benson Kiplangat, adding more depth to the competition.
The event program will begin on Friday, October 24, with bib and kit collection followed by a technical officials’ briefing, before the races take centre stage on Saturday from 7:30 am.
The day will feature the 6km U-20 women’s, 8km U-20 men’s, 10km senior women’s, 10km senior men’s, and 2km loop events for both men and women.
Athletics Kenya has also confirmed that the event will be broadcast live on their social media platforms, allowing fans across the world to follow the action.
The championships will conclude with an award ceremony and the naming of Team Kenya for the World Championships.
Winners will take home attractive cash prizes, with the senior men and women champions pocketing Sh200,000 each, the under-20 winners earning Sh140,000, and the 2km loop winners bagging Sh50,000.
Prizes will be awarded down to the 10th position across all categories.
